A Vibrant Celebration of Latino Heritage Month in Central Ohio

We’re excited to share a recap of “Know Your Labor and Immigration Rights and other Resources”. In Conmmemmoration of Latina Heritage Month. This event was co-organized by the Central Ohio Worker Center (COWC), the Office of Councilwoman Lourdes Barroso de Padilla, and the Our Lady of Guadalupe Center. Held on October 14 at the Our Lady of Guadalupe Center, the seminar focused on immigration and labor rights and celebrated Hispanic and Latino culture through community engagement, education, and empowerment in Columbus.

The event featured a presentation on immigration and labor rights by Advocates for Basic Legal Equality (ABLE) and COWC, offering crucial insights and hope to many navigating the complexities of immigration. All information was presented in Spanish to ensure inclusivity and empower every community voice.

Following the presentation, participants connected with partner organizations, including Columbus Public Health—Drug, Alcohol, and Suicide Prevention, the Center for Refugee Services, and ABLE, expanding resources for the Hispanic community. Councilwoman Lourdes Barroso de Padilla’s presence highlighted the vital role of representation in local governance and reinforced the importance of solidarity for a more inclusive and equitable society.

As we commemorate Latino Heritage Month and reflect on this celebration, we are reminded that honoring our heritage involves sharing stories and building connections for collective progress. Every individual plays a vital role in Columbus’s collective identity, and recognizing this diversity is crucial.

This seminar was a heartfelt tribute to the Hispanic community’s vibrant culture and resilience, highlighting the power of connection, knowledge, and solidarity. Moving forward, we remain committed to unity and empowerment, celebrating our culture and the significant contributions of every member of our Central Ohio community.
