- Legal Fellow
- Conducts legal research and compiles materials as assigned, assists with marketing/administration of “summer series webinars” on topics of interest to the COWC community, that may include but are not limited to:
- Unemployment compensation
- Wage Theft
- Workplace safety rights
- All webinars will include information that pertains to both documented and undocumented immigrants, and will be supported with a panel of no fewer than 2 participants or speakers.
- Assists with conducting outreach to panelists as needed.
- Assists with additional tasks and duties as assigned.
- Student learning opportunity will include: learning about the various workplace law topics that are the subject of the webinar; learning how a volunteer-led 501(c)(3) non-profit functions; developing skills as a researcher and writer; and learning how to package complicated legal material for a non-legal audience
- Development and Fundraising Fellow
- Recruits new members and develops and implements an “organizational partner” membership level, with approval of the Board
- Identifies and develops grant applications for funding opportunities for the COWC
- Works with communities of faith and local community organizations to strengthen relationships, encourage membership, and identify funding opportunities
- Assists with other fundraising efforts as assigned.
- Student learning opportunity will include: learning about fundraising and organizational membership development at a 501(c)(3) non-profit; learning how to build relationships with community members; learning how to make asks and follow-up on those asks; learning how to work between a diverse volunteer-led Board and committees and other more organized and structured donors and allies.
- Fellow will submit monthly timesheets to President and Treasurer of COWC Board no later than the third day of the next month. For example, fellows who worked in July must submit all hours worked to President and Treasurer by August 3rd.
- Timesheets will include: 1) the date and hours worked, billed in tenths of an hour and 2) a summary of the work performed during that time.
- Timesheets will be stored in the Google Drive for the COWC.
- Timesheets will be submitted via email
- The President will serve as “Supervisor” of fellows.
- President will manage and approve the day-to-day activities of fellows.
- President will have authority to assign tasks to fellows as needed.
- President is granted authority to designate when and if fellows may speak publicly on behalf of the COWC.
- President will provide updates regarding staffing at each COWC Board Meeting and will provide Board Members updates in a timely manner upon request
- President will work to ensure fellows have opportunity to engage in educational, experiential enrichment activities that supports the fellows academic and career goals.
- Fellows will be paid on a monthly basis.
- Fellows will be capped at 100 hours. Once an fellow reaches 100 hours, they will have hit the cap for their stipend.
- Legally, an fellow can work around 166.66 hours before their stipend no longer covers the minimum wage in Ohio.
- However, as the COWC, we would like to strive to pay for work at the rate of $15/hour.
- Therefore, once an fellow has hit 100 hours, they will stop working until they are approved for extra hours by the President and the Treasurer.
- Fellows who hit their cap on hours must submit a request to the President and the Treasurer of the COWC Board and request an extension of hours/pay.
- The request should include a rough estimate of the amount of hours needed and a summary of the work that needs to be performed during that time.
- The fellow shall not work until they have received approval in writing from the President and the Treasurer, or from either the President and Treasurer where it has been clearly stated that approval comes from both parties.
