In 2018, the Central Ohio Workers’ Center (“COWC”) helped workers who were victims of wage theft recover their rightfully earned, but unpaid, wages. In addition, the COWC took action to stop unlawful child labor practices at a local building site and educated workers about the benefits of using their own collective power on the job.
One individual who had worked a local restaurant for 2 months without receiving any wages, contacted the COWC through referral by the Cincinnati Interfaith Workers Center to seek help in recovering his wages. Trent Taylor, an attorney and a volunteer with the COWC assisted the worker in drafting a series of demand letters, in which the worker requested payment of back wages from his employer.
The COWC and the worker succeeded in forcing the employer to pay back the worker the full amount of his unpaid wages, without even a filing a lawsuit.
