When an employer doesn’t pay wages owed to workers, the COWC mobilizes and acts as an advocate, advisor, and support network for workers every step of the way. Two recent cases were similar at the outset but required different action!
In one recent case the COWC helped recover unpaid wages and related expenses by helping to file a mechanic’s lien. When the former employer received notice of he mechanics’ lien, it refused to pay. The COWC responded by referring the workers to an attorney who helped file a lawsuit to foreclose on the mechanic’s lien and recover unpaid wages and expenses. The employer agreed to settle the case for the full amount of the workers’ unpaid wages and expenses.
In another construction case, the COWC again helped by filing a mechanic’s lien. This time the action forced the employer to come to the table and resolve its debt to those who did the work. With assistance from the COWC, members of the workforce were able to force the employer to pay up in full.
Ohio workers lose $600 million dollars* each year to wage theft. We’re committed to advocating with and for workers experiencing wage theft.
